Price, Date, and Coding Guns Demystified

Date Posted:1 June 2023

Label guns play a crucial role in various industries by enhancing efficiency, simplifying operations, and facilitating inventory management. They are used to accurately display pricing and date information. Choosing the right label gun tailored to your business needs is essential to increase productivity. This guide will help you select the most suitable label guns to improve the speed and ease of creating labels for your products.

Where To Start?

To begin, consider the specific details you want to appear on the label. This may include a price, date, code, batch number, or a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. Determine whether you require all of this information to be included on a single label.

Pricing or date guns come in 1, 2, or 3 lines of prints and have varying numbers of bands. The number of bands, which are the numbers and letters you dial up, ranges from 6 to 12 on each line, depending on the gun you choose.

If you need to print a lot of information on the label, it is recommended that you choose the 3 line gun with 11 bands on each line. Alternatively, if you only need to print a small amount of information, the 1 line gun would be a suitable choice.

How To Select The Ideal Gun For Your Needs?

When selecting a gun, it's important to decide on the date format you prefer, such as using numbers only (28AUG23, 28/08/23, 28 08 23) or including the month abbreviation (e.g., 28 Aug 23). If you opt for the latter, make sure to choose a gun that offers this option. You can check the band layout picture on our website to see the printing capabilities of each gun. Note: you can also have pre-printed words such as 'Best Before' or 'Use By.' The full alphabet guns can print the words “Best Before” or “Use By” if that is what you would prefer.

If you have a 2 line gun, you can choose to print a price or batch code on the first line and a date on the second line. Alternatively, you may opt to print a code on the first line and a price on the second line.

Customers may be confused about the Best Before and Use By labels, thinking that the gun applies those words onto the label. However, this is not always the case as many labels already have the words pre-printed. The gun will then print variable data.

Our range of tools includes guns that can print words using alphabets. These guns are commonly known as Alphabet Tools. They usually have two lines, with the top line consisting of complete alphabets on every band, while the second line has numbers or dates. You can print by simply pulling the trigger.

What Should You Do After Deciding Which Gun You Need?

Once you have chosen the suitable gun for your requirements, the next step is to determine the type of adhesive that the labels will require based on your specific situation. Various types of adhesives are available for different applications including:

  1. Removable Adhesive
  2. Permanent Adhesive
  3. Freezer Adhesive
  4. Ultra Strong Fastyre Adhesive
Removable Adhesive

It might be necessary to use a label that can be removed easily by either you or your customer. This is particularly useful in the case of giftware, where the purchaser may want to remove the label without damaging the shiny finish on the box while giving the gift. Alternatively, you may want to remove the label easily yourself.

Meto Removable Adhesive Labels

Permanent Adhesive

Permanent labels have a strong adhesive that increases with time, making them difficult to remove. These labels are ideal when you want them to remain on the product permanently and prevent others from removing them. Removing the label is still possible, but it would require some effort.

Freezer Adhesive

Freezer labels are very useful in the food industry, especially when labeling frozen products or ones that will be frozen after labeling. The only issue that may arise is when the product is covered in frost, as it becomes difficult to find a label that will adhere in such conditions.

Ultra Strong Fastyre Adhesive

This adhesive is extremely strong and works well on materials like rubber, even when other adhesives fail. To purchase this adhesive, you will need to request a custom order as there are no standard products available. Final Point To Keep In Mind

Are tamper proof cuts necessary for my labels? Tamper proof cuts cause the label to break into three pieces if an attempt is made to remove it from the product it's attached to. Our website offers both Tamper-Proof and Non Tamper-Proof labels. Non Tamper-Proof labels do not have cuts, while Tamper-Proof labels do have cuts.

Conclusion

Once you have completed these three steps, you should be able to determine the best option for your needs.
