To see if the foam on your ink roller is still okay, you’ll need to do a quick check.
Please Note: This check can also be done straight from the packaging of a new ink roller if you think it might be more than 1 year old. The foam will still perish in the packaging over time, even if it has not been used in the gun.
Step 1: Click the trigger and pull the ink roller until it's accessible.
Step 2: You need to get a tool that is pointy such as a pen or flat blade screwdriver.
Step 3: Now run the tool along the ink roller foam in a horizontal direction. If the foam doesn't bounce back and it leaves a line in the foam or the ink roller foam breaks up, then this ink roller is too old (perished) and needs to be replaced.
If the ink roller looks like this after you’ve done the test, you should discard the ink roller and put a new one in. If you don’t discard the ink roller, you will end up with all tiny bits of foam in the numbers on the printhead, giving poor print.
If you do have foam stuck in your numbers and it is printing poorly, you can open the base of the gun, keep the trigger held down, and clean the printhead number with a dry toothbrush.
